My stage : Day 3

Day 3:

Today, again was another different day to the other two.

First we went to see the alpacas, (they didn't sleep in the barn so no need to let them out), we checked that everything was okay and then went back inside to post the blog and see how the other posts were doing while replying to all of the lovely messages and questions on the posts.

Afterwards we had a few things to sort out in terms of bookings and stuff like that,

so we made a few calls to answer some questions that had been left on voicemail, as sometimes Sophie misses the calls if she is out with the alpacas or just not available at that precise moment, we also sent out some messages for the same reason. Next, we went back outside to feed Blaze some of the mama food and we went on the hunt for Jura's fibre so that we could skirt though it (take all of the unwanted things out like hay, grass, leaves etc out) this afternoon, and then we set up the working space so that we could do so.

After doing that we went in for lunch, which was a delicious bowl of pasta bake with lots of veggies in it, and some lovely mini chocolate beignets for pudding that Will went and bought this morning, yummy!

Or even better, extend your alpaca time with a stay in the glamping tent!

When lunch was finished, it took a bit of motivation but we went outside and started skirting the fiber which was very hard work, time consuming, and I'm not going to lie, very frustrating at times but it was still an amazing experience, and we had chosen to set up the work space in the field that the alpacas were in so we could work and watch them at the same time. They occasionally came and sniffed the wool as if they were thinking it was actually Jura. We took a few breaks to hand out some mama food mainly to Blaze but the others managed to get some too!

When we decided that that was enough skirting for today,

we did the daily task of poo picking and a small Instagram live for a few minutes before Sophie's phone died so we did sort of an interview video to finish off my stage and then went to do some more handling of the alpacas and a few more health checks on the ones we didn't do the other day, just to make sure that everything was doing good and it was but it took a bit of a struggle to catch some of them, and as Sophie and I did that, Will gave them their daily meal.

The last thing I did was make one last post while they were finishing eating.

There we go, that was my work experience on the farm, it was another very interesting day, and again I have learnt so much! This stage has been the best, I feel so so lucky to have been able to come here it was the experience of a lifetime to see what goes on behind what the clients see and what has to happen for the alpacas well-being that I would never have guessed needed doing, these things just don't come to mind, for example never in a million years would I have come to the farm expecting to do some weeding!

It feels like I have learnt so much in such a small space of time, only three days and I am coming away knowing so much more about these fascinating animals than I did, and I am so glad, I couldn't have asked anything more, it was perfect (even having to take the wood chippings out of Rohini's tail just before leaving!).

So I would like to say another huge thank you to both Will and Sophie and all of the animals on the farm for letting me in on their life, all day for three days and sharing all of their knowledge and some life stories while we were at it! It was the most perfect time, and I will definitely be back!

And a massive thank you to all of the viewers who have supported me throughout this experience and have not given up on me.

We’ve added this service so that you can support the farm from a far and give your support, a gift from you to them. This is a much easier way than trying to post a bag of carrots!

From something really little, to bigger gifts, everything is so appreciated. From a bag of (nutritious) treats, to essential hay, a big bag of feed, their vaccination or a visit from the vet; your support is magical.

We will do what we can when we can to show our thanks to you, from a thank you email with exclusive photos and videos for you, to a gift we would send.
